Re: How the Europeans start of the mini ice age
That’s why I liked Brian’s. Poem Cappy. Thought it was typical the way we saw ourselves, maybe others didn’t, but who. Cares.
The last two verses in case forgotten .....
It’s not for me to tend the gardens and flowers
Polishing the brasses , walking the dog for hours
But to go back round the world in a blaze of glory
Then I’ll come back home and write my story.
And then one day, when I’m old and grey
And my life’s been used up, and it comes time to pay
As I lie in my bed on my face will be a smile
I’ll be thinking it’s all been worthwhile.
Cheers old cock.

Re: How the Europeans start of the mini ice age
Our daughter did a few year as a T.B. specialist nurse, the reason being that it is on the increase becoming quite prevalent in certain areas and classes unfortunately. We can all remember what a scurge it was and I for one thought it had been all but eradicated. What used to be particularily interesting was reading the old headstones in the grave yards, a large proportion of people had died of the "Consumption".

In about 2001/2 I was involved in project at Leicester Royal Infirmary, where they were building another ward on the roof of the existing building. When I asked what they were doing I was told that it was an isolation ward for the big increase in TB cases due to immigrants from the sub continent

Re: How the Europeans start of the mini ice age
Some of them arriving illegally also have the disease at very advanced stages I beleive, and of course they receive no health screening further adding to the problem and carrying the disease to others. At the end of the day further stretching our fragile funded N.H.S. Like you Tony I worked in a number of Major Acute Hospitals and saw all sorts of things but was sworn to patient confidentiallity. The full story always remains within! I used to carry out testing of medical equipment in patients isolation rooms and wards, it surprised me at the number of prisoners being treated. With reference to my daughter, she states that a lot of T.B. can be contacted at a very early age, but may lie dormant for many years before surfacing to the fore (Latent T.B) I remember as a child my sister had T.B. / Meningitis (almost died) caught from our uncle who was a serving soldier.
Re: How the Europeans start of the mini ice age
It actually was quite surprising to me that there were 60 million indigenous American people before the Europeans arrived I think that we took disease to quite a lot of places and wiped out quite a lot of people it was the surprise that is actually improve the climate through genocide that caught me out
I find that the world service broadcasts are very often a mine of information and was listening intently at not only how this plimat change it happened but also to the fact that at one point in recent times measles was all but eliminated and people became so blase about it that they stopped vaccinating their children despite the fact that measles can kill and now a disease that was virtually extinct has started to rear its Ugly Head again
I have had conversations with people who are totally aunty all kinds of vaccination but I have my flu jab every year just in case I've had my pneumonia jab just in case and look forward to getting a shingles jab just in case although in the UK now I believe you have to be 72 years old to get that rather have precaution then die of something stupid

Hi Ken
When I was young I thought that people dying of consumption meant they ate to much. Two years ago a Vietnamese woman just arrived was found to have an incurable type of TB, never heard anymore about it.

Re: How the Europeans start of the mini ice age
There have now been two reported cases of Polio suspected here in Oz, both with persons from South Sea islands.
As to the Crab festival we have a few similar ones here in Victoria, it is very easy to catch crabs here in Oz.
But now the two biggest killers here, Prostate Cancer in men. more than breast cancer in women and bowel cancer.
Big push for all to be screened regularly for it.
Have my jabs each year, starting to fel like a bloody dart board.
