Re: Climate. Change
That is very true John
an Ice berg only displaces its own weight, not volume when it is floating in the sea.
here are some icebergs off Antarctica. There no sign of warming there, it was freezing.

Re: Climate. Change
Captain Kong.
I was not trying to `write things in stone`. I only said "How about" ? Of course it`s all open to conjecture and much in the way of that has been flying about for a long time now. Actually things and events can prove to be quite contradictory at times. eg:- the tide level just outside your house being completely unvaried for `Donkeys years`, whilst other places all around our coast are steadily losing beaches and cliffs to the sea. The beach I played on as a boy now lies well beyond and beneath todays low tide level. Wouldn`t know what to think really but `no matter`, because you and I may be long gone before things get really critical.

Re: Climate. Change
I am 78 years old, and we have a lot older members than myself on this site, and i recall when i was a young lad , that we were told the world was entering another ice age era, maybe others recall this,, still waiting for that. I do believe that as the world spins, it gives a slight wobble, and brings about climate change, to what extent is another argument. For the human race to be arrogant enough to stop, or slow something that is a normal occurrence . The ice age was not caused by cars, air pollution by humans etc, maybe was polluted by volcanoes etc, and we still have them, just my view, kt

Re: Climate. Change
When Cappy was a young lad he was told the world was flat, how far do you want to go back ? Coastal erosion has always been there, go back far enough and the uk was joined to the rest of Europe , just think how kind someone was for giving one the English Channel. Australia was joined to Asia. Go back further and the whole earth was just water. Hard to imagine some of us with dorsal fins and big sets of teeth, or is it ? Cheers JWS

Re: Climate. Change
#13... Keith you have a yachtmasters certificate I believe. Did they not give you basic lectures on the world and it’s seasons etc. and how they came about. From 65 years ago which means my memory of 65 years ago. “ The earth is an elliptical shape with its polar diameter approx. 27 miles less than its equatorial diameter. Although the sun appears to move around the earth , it is the earth that moves around the sun , and this apparent motion extended to the celestial sphere is called the. Ecliptic . The earth moves around the sun at various speeds , and is also. Inclined 23.5 degrees from the perpindicular to the plane of its orbit , thus causing the sun to have various declinations that is , is over different areas at. Different times thus given us the seasons. There is more to this, but is the basics of what seasons are , it is probably written in the wrong order the way described. But you should have been taught here basic facts. Our whole basis of star watching space travel which has been proven depends on the. Earths movements being known. Any slight difference in tilt will cause a difference in seasons and also obviouslly the weather. It is. Something that cannot be controlled unless you employ Charlie Atlas and give him a big crowbar to adjust that 23.5 degrees. Cheers JWS

Re: Climate. Change
Over time since the 50's man has put so much crap up into space it makes one wonder if any of that may have any effect on the planet.
But the earth does move on its axis by as much as 1 degree I was once told. That accounts for the variation in size of north and south poles ice caps.
We had a 'Green' councilor fly to Canada for a meting on carbon emissions.
When told that aircraft also make such her reply,' how else was I to get there'?
It has now been suggested that the sinking of the South sea islands is not that they are sinking but rather they have drained all the fresh water from below the surface giving the impression the sea is rising as the islands sink a little.
We had one f the mad brigade here claim that melting ice caps would increase the level of sea water around Oz by one meter.
No where else according to him , only here.
And these idiots breed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Climate. Change
John the earth also as well as taking approx a year to make a complete elliptical path around the sun, also rotates on its axis through 360 degrees every day or approx 24 hours. A sidereal day or star day is 23 hours 56 mins. And 27 seconds that is the time It takes for it to cross the observers meridian from the first to the second time. To say anymore would just confuse without being able to demonstrate on a blackboard or paper. If you question your friend the compass adjuster I would imagine he would be able to answer any of your queries. Cheers JWS.
