Re: What a load of Scallops !
Should break out HMS VICTORY again with her 100 cannons and sink the berstered, just like Trafalgar.
They were in International waters.
In Morecambe bay here by Fleetwood the sea is full of french trawlers, , belgian trawlers, spanish trawlers, NOT ONE Fleetwood trawler. All catching our fish, the frogs take their catch to cherbourg and then into container lorries and Transported back to Fleetwood, I see them coming in to Dock Street Fish Company every week, The man at that company said How daft that is. Thousand fishermen out of work here, cannot fish because europe said so.
Our fishermen should fit those big battering rams on the bows, like the old ships, of their boats and then ram and sink the frogs. Dont mess with the Brits.

Re: What a load of Scallops !
Looks like a load of old Scallops to me.
Not sure what the limit is on coastal in EU waters, if three miles then UK ships have a right to be there.
But in some instances, we have some parts here in Oz, a twelve mile limit can exist.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: What a load of Scallops !
The limit around the french coast is 12 miles
the British vessels were outside in International waters, so the frogs were behaving like pirates, it was an illegal act. They should be charged with attacking other vessels,

John P #6 "lets hope after we go from the EU club we can give our fishermen a fair deal to many from Europe are stripping our fishing grounds …."
John, each country has a 12 mile exclusion in the English channel. The British vessels were 15 miles off the French coast and within international waters when the altercation took place. However, British vessel have a a history of fishing within the 12 mile boundry, plus:
"...vessels in a battle over scallops have previously been fined thousands of pounds for catching undersized shellfish, government records reveal
Macduff Shellfish (Scotland) owns the Honeybourne III, hull number PD905. It took the craft over in 2016 from Macduff Fishing Fleet.
Both firms have been prosecuted and fined for breaching fishing regulations in recent years, according to government documents."
The scallop beds in question are reputed to be among the richest, but are showing severe strains of over fishing."
The French fish the beds seasonally, Oct. 1-May 15. The Brits. fish all year round. This non observance of the closed season, undersize fishing, and encroaching within the 12 mile limit is the crux of the argument.

Re: What a load of Scallops !
I find it incomprehensible that you defend the French actions by bringing up past UK fishermen's indiscretions.
The UK fishermen's were in international waters when they were attacked by the French, witnessed by an Irish fisherman.
What the incident does highlight is the stupidly of EU Laws, French cannot fish for scallops until October, whilst UK fishermen's can.
On the opposite side of the channel the reverse is the case, French fishermen can fish all year round, whilst there UK counterparts are banned for long periods.

Re: What a load of Scallops !
Rodney do you disagree that the UK has had rough deal regards fishing when every country in Europe are stripping British waters while quotas are put on our own? although I know very little about the fishing industry other than what is on the news there are many who fished the waters around our shores on this site that may enlighten both you and I? but personally just what I think our fishermen are standing in port while EU countries are helping themselves I don't think this is a fair deal to our fleets this is just my view I am sure there will be a response from the members that know better? jp

Re: What a load of Scallops !
Check your menu !
If say's Cod etc, it should be so.
Many just add fish and chips etc.
Most likely you will be served Pangasius.
