Fleetwood
On the news yesterday there was an item regarding Brians second home, Fleetwood. Apparently it has one of the highest percentage of obese children in the country. There is an 18 month ongoing program attempting to improve the general health of all Fleetwood's population with regular monitoring of children's B.M.I. along with improvement to physical exercise. A number of their citizens were interviewed, kept a close eye out to see if they got hold of Brian but he must have been back in Bolton, washing his ***** and hijab.

Re: Fleetwood
I have lost 14 lbs since March and am now a super fit hero.
I work out in the Gym on the ship every day, on all the machines, lifting weights etc.
Four times round the prom deck is one Mile on the Maasdam so we do our mile every morning and again late afternoon.
My Bar Bill was NIL for six weeks.
At home here in Boltonistan I use my Exercise bike everyday and lift my weights. So Not bad for 83 Years old in six weeks.
I saw that program last night.
The problem with Fleetwood was it was a very busy hard working town, with the Fishing industry, one of our biggest fishing ports in the country, then......... Europe banned the Fishing fleets, so a few thousand fishermen and shore based fishing industry people lost their jobs.
next, The roll on roll off vessels of P&O were sold to STENA Line, and they promptly closed down the terminal another few hundred lost their jobs.
There are no jobs at all now in Fleetwood.
People in despair, they slump in their chairs at home or in the ale house smoking fags and /or supping ale.
They sink into a lethargy, roll on death attitude.
and all caused by Europe.
So at last someone is trying to motivate them.
cheers
Brian

Well Brian I have for more than forty years done my bit for Fleetwood. I buy my Fisherman's Friends every fortnight I think I am an addict. Saw the Micheal Portillo programme on the factory, they export world wide these days.

Re: Fleetwood
Hi Bill , I too love FISHERMENS FRIEND, always have a few packets in the house.
Their biggest customer is Japan.
I was in Cairns in Queensland two years ago and needed some as had developed a cough, and in a store the had boxes of them,
tho` a little expensive.
The Lofthouse family who own it are big benefactors to Fleetwood. but for them they would have nothing. I am amazed that Europe hasn't tried to close them down.

The original Lofthouse chemist shop ( I think it is still there ) was on the corner of Lord Street and Preston Street. The fishermen heading down to the Fish Dock at sailing time all detoured on their way to call and buy a bottle of cough medicine and a packet or two of the lozenges. I was born in Preston Street and knew many of the family, a great bunch of people and tremendous benefactors to the town. I have seen their products on sale all over the world, even the remotest of Pacific islands !! Regards Peter in NZ.

Re: Fleetwood
Don't do Weights any longer ,but do try and keep Fit with various things like Walking and doing things around the House.
I used to do Weights but if carrying on when you have to stop,a lot of that Muscle turns to Flab and and looks awful.
But of course each has their won methods!
I do a lot of Work here and have just finished (well almost just a few little gaps to fill.) laying some Concrete Pavers,no easy task at each weighing in at 15 kg and after over a 180 of them gets a bit tough on the Arms and Back.(each 400 mm X 400 mm X 40 mm)
Will take another Pic When done, still have to lift a few here and there to Level off!
Cheers

Re: Fleetwood
Looks good Vernon, but just onto road metal like that?
I always put a layer of either granatic or washed river sand on top of the metal.
Beds the pavers better and reduces the risk of sinking in one spot or another.
