it had to happen
after reading the scandal regarding cricket in Aus, I said I was waiting for a scandal to hit the world marbles championships.... sure enough, just read that the day was marred by drunks, thefts of trophies and bad weather..Not quite as dramatic as the cricket scandal but I found it somewhat amusing....I can remember as a young lad going to watch the days events at the Greyhound pub at Tinsley green, near Gatwick, for many years. another trip down memory lane...
regards, stan

Hi Stan.
You must have been reading our minds. Yesterday we were talking about a trip we made to the Uk. We went to the village in Wales where i was born and brought up. I took my wife for a walk down the lane to the local town, on the way I was telling here about a marble i lost there once, a realy good one, would you beleive I saw an old marble in the dirt on the side, to this day I think it was the one I had lost around 75 years ago.
Cheers Des

I think some of the old rural villages had a fantastic arrangement of sports I'm sure there is somewhere in the UK where they have the world tiddlywinks championship still I also remember passing through a village in Dorset where they had an annual nettle eating contest I think that's part of the makeup of the United Kingdom that little bit of rural daftness that makes us British Special

Cheese rolling is a sport in one part of UK I have heard.
Personally I prefer the ordinary cheese roll, but each to his own.

.
Elf n Safti stopped it last year, on the grounds that some of the cheeses weighed in excess of 14lbs and could cause serious injury, the Council then decided that the organisers should take out around £10 million Public Liability Insurance, pay for road closures (it's on a hill in a field), Police and Stewarding etc.
The organisers said that this year they will hold a cheese slice tossing competition

Hi Ivan.
A bit like cheese Frisbee comp, everyone would have to wear a cheesy smile. They would probably ban it in case of low flying aircraft.

Re: it had to happen
Now it would appear there will have to be two forms of the cheese slice throwing competition.
One for the ordinary slice that can be found in any supermarket packet.
The other for one used by the catering industry where each slice is individually wrapped.
There was a call for just the one using slices with the wrapping taken off.
But this had been rejected on the grounds it could be seen as slice tampering.
