    Question Passenger Ship Material?

How many people still out there with fond memories of the "Rangi" boats? I sailed on the "Rangitoto" in 1968 and met my wife whom I married in December '69. I am still in touch with Trevor Register 2nd Electrician, and
    John Cherrington 7th Engineer.

    Default Utility Stewards

    Dave...

Utility stewards formed what was called 'The Chain Gang' They were responsible for keeping the crew alleyways etc clean and for catering duries apart from serving in the Saloon.
They were never employed in the engine room as that was most certainly for experienced engine room staff only.

    Default Chain Gang

    Ref post #4

Yea i remember the old Chain Gang, but there must have been different Jobs on different Ships?
On the UCL (and please corrct me if i have forgotten) the Chain Gang was also responsible for the Early Morning carries of the large Bags of Linen to the Laundry, and also the Beer Carries from the stores to the Various Sections!
That i remember so well, even recall nicking a few Beers along the way haha!
Then it was getting ready for the days catering Services, like Shining your Portholes,Scrubbing your patch,Laying the Tables etc,all go and at a fair good pace too!
After that it was down to the Cabins to wash yourself up,get all tidied up,and then down for the day to serve the rush of hungry Bloods in the Tourist Class and at 2 sitting of Fourteen at that! Whew!! haha!
Oh it was all in the name of fun ! Eeeeeek!
