Re: NZSC Fleet List as at 1st May 1967
John in OZ
He studied engineering at Manchester university, getting a first class honours degree. On leaving university he joined Lloyds of London who sponsored him whilst he earned enough sea time to be able to take his 2nd and then his chiefs tickets. He got that sea time sailing in NZS co. He appears in Brian's list in 67 and I met him in Vic docks in 69 when I was cadet on the Beaverfir and he was 2nd engineer on one of the new M boats of NZS. He left NZS on gaining his chiefs job to become a Lloyds surveyor, starting in Newcastle , where I stayed with him in 71 when I was doing 2nd mates at Shields. Did not meet up with him until the 80's when on container ship in Montreal where he was working for the Salvage association and was able to spend time with him and his Chech born wife, who had fled chechoslavakia during its invasion by Russia. Sadly that was the last time I met him before his death in 2010. When he was at university he spent time in barrow in Furness working on the oriana and would visit us and take me out on the pillion of his Norton motorcycle, as a youngster it terrified the life out of me.

Re: NZSC Fleet List as at 1st May 1967
John, thanks for that, if he was there in 1967 then long after me.
He appears to have done well though, sadly like so many no longer with us.
Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.
