Anyone remember Fred Lambert ?
Hello All
Fred Lambert was my uncle and I'm trying to piece together his years spent with NZSCo. I know he was 2nd Engineer on the Ruahine in 1957 he was also on the Rangitoto as 2nd. I remember visiting him onboard when he was in Liverpool, he was Chief then on the Haparangi and several other ships through the 1960's & 70's.
Any information would be much appreciated.

Re: Anyone remember Fred Lambert ?
Hello
Fred was my uncle. He was born in Liverpool around 1930. As far as I know he worked for NZSCo all his working life. I remember visiting him onboard various ships when he was in Liverpool during the 1960's and 70's. He was Chief Engineer then. I also have photos of him from 1957 when he was 2nd on board the Ruahine and the Rangitoto.
Thanks for contacting me.
Regards
John Lambert

Re: Anyone remember Fred Lambert ?
There would be no actual Merchant Navy Records kept if he was still at Sea after 1972 which looks like the case!

Re: Anyone remember Fred Lambert ?
I did my first 3 trips with Fred when he was 2nd Engr. on the Ruahine. That was Sept. 1956--late 57. I was 4th then 3rd electrician, Then I went on to the Paparoa for 2yrs before going to Bowaters (for a lot more of the folding stuff). I'm not much good at this keyboard stuff but I would be pleased to phone you from here in "oz", we have a GREAT Deal with our Telco and I spend lots of time speaking to U.K. If you send me your Ph. No.,I'll be in touch. George Crebbin, (there's a few of us in the Merseyside Phone Book)

In 1964 I was inspired to go to sea by an ex NZSCo chief engineer, His name was Harry Nicholson and at that time was ashore working in a power station on the Tyne. He gave me all his "Reeds" text books so I was dead keen after going thro them.
He recommended that company as being a good outfit and traded to a nice place (NZ) so I applied, didnt get so much as an acknowledgement, tried Ben Line next, same result; ended up with Shell and have had no regrets about that company.
