#80 My time on tankers was only a year thank goodness. Joining in Bandar Mashur which involved a long Desert ride in an open army jeep. Left in the same place also months later at the wrong time as got detained in Teheren due the Shah being replaced by the religious fanatic. Finally got a flight out to Sydney and then down or up to Newcastle to pick up another tanker and Hi Ho on the Kiwi coast . Bluff being the last port of call . Used to be called the A-hole of the Antipodes , but it had a couple of pubs and was the only thing required. Days of milk and honey. Sheeps milk of course. Cheers JS
You forgot the oysters, you forgot the oysters, Bluff oysters the best in the world.
Can't remember the number of times I was in Bluff, far to many I think.

Don’t forget the bottle of Chardonnay to go with them.. JS
Only once on tankers, get into port but so far from town center by the time you got there the ship was ready to sail again.
Couldn't afford Chardonnay - used to be Montana Cold Duck for us and the shippies.....................
Wasn't there a Port Line office in every port in NZ.
Certainly was one in Auckland , if she used the same name every time , Gaynor must have been well known by many seafarers and her troop of girls. JS
Just read the article on "Ringbolting " It went on around the Australian Coast too.
I recall one time an overseas ship sailing direct from Newcastle ( N.S.W) to an over seas port, the young women must have having a ball, cause the ship was almost to the Harbour entrance ( Nobbys Headland ) The "Oldman and the Pilot" called up a launch from Lovetts to meet the ship and disembark the two "Ladies", I don't think they got caught again, they were charged for the launch trip and we heard later the crew member(s) were also logged.
I do recall one incident on the Pretoria where an engineer took a young lady from Cape Town to Durban hidden in his cabin.
Only after the event that any one found out.
I was assistant pantry then and heard from one of the officers stewards who said he help to hide her.
