Good to see you back on line Brian. As for the snake I expect it was a water snake in the swamp. One night an English colonial civil service mate, Arthur and I were fishing in his small open boat just inside the reef at Suva. One of these climbed up the outboard motor and slipped into the bottom of the boat. We were both like cats on hot bricks and nearly turned the boat over flipping it over the side with stick. They are highly venomous but have small mouths which is their one good point.

Brian, maybe if you had worn a grass skirt the bloody snake would have gone somewhere else.
