Twas on the good ship penus, By Christ you should have seen us. The figurehead was a whore in bed and the captain's name was......

As I once mentioned, a balladeer in our cabin was good for 40 odd verses.

There's another one he was great at and equally vulgar but good for a beer and a laugh. The ballad of Eskimo Nell.

Cheers and lift a tinny for the New Year. Rodney

Rodney either intentionally or unintentionally I always thought the ship was the good ship Venus and the captains name was Penis.? There was a real Eskimo Nell used to live in Lerwick well known, well known to pub goers. Cheers JS

On my first ship there were two records in the bar. One was a very scratchy record of Caruso opera singing , the other was rugby songs that had short dittys on it, such as
    Mary from the mountain glen
Seduced herself with a fountain pen
The pen nib broke and she gave birth to a blue black child
They called the berstad Stephen, cos that was the name of the ink,not quink
    Or
There was a young lady from devizes
Who tits were of both different sizes
One was small, hardly anything at all
But the other was big and won prizes

Plus many others with the chorus of
    that was a terrible song
    Sing us another one do
    After each one.

There was one in North Shields; a man from there worked in Alaska and got married to an Eskikmo and came back home to live. She left him after two years and went back to Alaska, she said it was too cold in N. Shields

    I walked by your window
    one morning at three.
    Please tell me
    Please tell me
    What you poured over me.
    It wasn't just water
    it wasn't just tea
    It smelled bloody awful
    to me just like pee.

#34 Maybe she changed her mind and went to Lerwick ( Shetlands ) instead , had an A.B with me in the North Sea , originally from the Falkland Islands , took up residence in Lerwick well known, asked him why and he said it was just like home in the Falklands. Cheers JS.

Cool Re: Shipboard and bar ditty’s half remembered .

JSW. You are right John, re. Venus and Penus. In the excitement of whacking out the post I reversed the two words. Good job I didn't make the same mistake with the word whacking. Cheers, Rodney
