Our first house in Northolt Middlesex in 1970 was for 4500GBP.

I put in a central heating system and built a sun room at the back.
Saw it on the net a few weeks ago, some changes been done to it with an extra bedroom in the roof space.

Last sold a few years ago for50,000GBP.

    That is inflation for sure.

Our house in a little village in Wales was up for 150 pounds, that was around 1954, one had to have the 50 pounds in some Sir's Company who had built the Village, my father had it; but had left home, I asked my brother to borrow the money as I would have had it when I paid of after twelve months. Around the 60s I saw it on a Welsh web sit for 250 thousand pounds, they had built some posh houses on the village green opposite.

The main cause for house prices soaring is? They have convinced the population that buying a house is an investment property where in fact it was and still is a home and security for the family. Sure at todays prices I paid feck all for this house but it has not provided any income over those years. Why do they not realise that the difference between selling your home and buying another get wider each and every time. Unless you are down sizing and then fees and charges take away a lot of that profit. Every tom dick and harry has his hot little hand out for your money when doing that. The sheriff karked it in this house and I intend to follow her.

I realised this late in life Les so was older than most when decided to move into a retirement village. Looked around a lot of them but chose a one with a military background as hoped they would be more sincere in their quest for non profit making and up to now after 3 years haven’t been disappointed. Regardless of what others think I have found it much cheaper to live thus rather than a mortgaged outside property , and have a fixed buy back rate if decide to leave either walking or in a box. Anyone over 50 can invest in such accomodation at much much less than some of the exorbitant prices being charged today. There are no repairs to pay for unless responsible for the damage. Only insurance required is inside for valuables etc. No rates or water rates , no gardening , transport to shops once a week if required , 2 bars 1 restaurant , 2 pools, 1 gymnasium , tennis courts , bowling greens , golf course across the road , endless other by-products . Life is what you make it , and can be a hermit or a pleasure seeking wanton , the choice is freedom and your choice, also one of the big advantages is safety as well in todays savage world. The basic price is
30% of a persons single government pension paid monthly. Have struggled and owned 5 houses in my lifetime two in the uk and three out here, what for , just to keep up with the Jones’s , Davy Jones of course !!! Cheers JS
PS as an additive this month the annual costs have a return of just over $100,000 profit and this has been elected by the tenants to be returned to the dwellers by coming off this months outgoings such as power etc. so should be a free month for most. I don’t run up a tab in the bar or dwell in the resteraunt for elaborate meals so should be a freebie. JS.

Many like my sister in law sell the family home and move into a retirement village.
Some are very good, the one she was in is excellent.
Then shew fell off the perch and the family has to sort it all.
Thye were charged a 30% fee on the sale of the property!!!!

Life style villages are a lot cheaper to move into, around about $470K compared with some retirement villages of $750K

Many now downsize and use the m for holidays etc.

With some companies you can get a loan against the equity of your property, but the interest rate if prohibitive.

There is no fee in my case John the price is fixed in advance year by year depending on what year you seek superior accomodation in the land beyond the clouds and is bought back at that price by the association themselves to sell onwards , so your buyers are already there waiting for you to pop off. It comes down year by year but remains static after so many years. JS

    Hi John
After years of struggle we have settled here in Cooma by chance, the house is three bedroom comfortable and close to the town center. We did look at a retirement village up the Central Coast, but I wasn't keen on it as I was young at the time I think 70, have the two kids and Grand daughter living down the road, we all go up the club for dinner on a Friday, thought they are n their sixties the wife still pays for them, We struggle with ailments but I think we have the good life.

Was talking it over with my solicitor about getting a valuation of this house and then paying the stamp duty for the son to go on the deeds as co owner. He informed me that if I was to end up going into a home that they could not take the house because the son is co owner and when I kark it the house would go direct to him outside the will. I mention this because so far have not done it but still got time (I hope). Also if any of you have not heard about this loop hole in the legal system. Now they are starting to broadcast this on the local radio station. Do not know how long others have had to wait for probate but it has been three months now and still waiting patiently. Not that I am in any hurry. Did not realise that there was so much fecking crap when ones partner karks it. Even to the extent that I have to carry my birth certificate to prove who I am. Oh for the old days when all one had to do was to show up and sort everything out face to face and not be confronted with boxs to fill in with multiple forms.

We have Silver Chain comes in once a fortnight now and have done for the past 6 months only here for an hour to do the floors and anything else that needs doing. Due mainly to the wife’s arthritis in the hands which she is in pain with a lot. It’s not a gift horse as do pay for but very reasonable us with all the gold bullion bars. Cheers JS

Home care as it is called here in Victoria is good but not easy to get.
It can depend on who you know in the system rather than how much you need it.
Friend of ours had need of such help 5 years ago after an accident.
She is now fully fit again, just done a 5 weeks overseas trip, but still gets the help.
She was told once you are in the system that is it.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
