No idea where she gets it all from.
Hi John if I remember correctly when Aussie changed over from Pounds Shillings & Pence to Dollars & Cents the 50 cent piece had a higher content of silver than the value of 50 cents. As a result you very rarely found one. The content was quickly changed I never found one of the first edition. I have some of the old money a florin a shilling and sixpence, no paper!

I can remember the old white £5er's, only reason is when my granny died, under her bed was a biscuit tin with loads of White £5er's in it.
My aunt said this was money my Dad had sent to my granny as part of his wages when he was at sea during the war. Cannot remember the amount but it was a few hundred, my Dad died before my granny and the contents of the biscuit tin was given to my mum.

    Thumbs down Re: Legal tender

I emptied my wife’s purse last night before going out as she tends to have too much change and is liable to spill out with having bad hands, I did however replace with paper money. So had a pocketful of 50 cent pieces on going out last night , however no longer have them this morning so must have gone in the barmaids till. Cheers JS.

But of course the bar is never fussy about what they take as long as they get it.\
It is only a rate of exchange, beer for money.

I remember once, while in Ireland with my brother, we were staying at my aunts house. My brother walked by the staircase and noticed something under the stair carpet. He had a look, and found hundreds of pound in notes, then found more under other steps. I said "we'd better tell aunty Minnie". On telling her about the find, she said "Oh you shouldn't be looking there, it's where I keep all my money".
When she died, we went over for the funeral. The first thing my brother said when we got to the house was, "let's look under the carpet" and sure enough, there it was, hundreds of pounds.
We left it there, thinking we'd discuss it with other relatives later, but forgot about it.
Some time later, when the house was sold, my brother rang me to moan about leaving the money for the new owners of the house. I thought it was funny, but he didn't.
