Default When money wasn’t the root of all Evil.

When Council leaders did the job for free and just paid out of pocket expenses. The honour of being a councillor was enough . Whoever caused that to happen wasn’t thinking straight .
When the Olympic Games lost its title of Ameteur Sports persons only ..probably the same person .
When the price tag for so called professional sports people reached exorbinant heights and their nationality of the team they were playing for was secondary. Was looking for the post Then and Now to put into but couldn’t find , would have been the place to put this as know there are many more could be added to add to the money is the root of all evil. Maybe when the habit of buying shares which was formerly for the Duns of this world was advertised to the working man who was not as wily as those who make a millionaires lifestyle out of it. Dun = moneylender . Cheers JS

that is the main reason that I gave up watching sport. Can recall back in the 70s the nsw rugby league teams drew their players from the juniors and the players actually had real jobs during the week. The games where promoted as a place that dad could take the kids out for the day and not cost any more than ten dollars to watch all the games that day. Same went for most other sports. Nowadays one can not support their team as the players could end up playing for a rival team the next season. To young, to much money and to much time on their hands. Is it no wonder that they get in trouble. Just as we would have if we ended up getting paid that amount when at sea.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

A lot of successful sports men & women do a lot of good in the community. Quite often financing local projects and playing an active roll in youth development. Sadly it is not often it gets on the news. I am sure a lot of nursing staff and patients would rather shake hands with a successful sports person than some arsehole looking for a vote.
Sadio Mane is one such individual who has given over Hundreds of thousands of £££££& €€€€€€€ to fund projects in his home land Senagal. He gives every family from his home village of 2000 families €70 a month stipend, may not sound a lot but is equal to a months minium wage. He funds free lap tops for schools. £500,000to build a local hospital £700,000 for upgrading the internet system.
There are many more who do likewise. The likes of Wayne Rooney , yes he has been a bit naughty at times but he has done a lot for Clair House a childrens hospice here on Wirral. Jamie Carragher has a charitable foundation for under priviledged children. Raffa Benetiz Montse foundation funds local charities on Wirral. I am sure other sports personalities do likewise around the country. Yes they do earn a lot, or those at the top of their game do, others are scraping out a living.
I would rather see a kid earning £2000 a week kicking a ball than some of his mates earning £2000 a week selling drugs.
