Hi shipmates Hi Dr Vernon, its the third one I think? What I remember derricks, canvas hatchs wooden decks cutter bow all white paint very nice ship great young crew ,The food was rubbish,{ pink lint every night} The breakfast was the best meal, but the cargo was very good? spirits and toys and cadburys chocolate in the refrigeration hold, great for trading still have a dinkey car from that ship over 7 months on this one great time but it was scraped in Italy flew home.;)

Hi Shipmates, Hi Dr Vernon, Thats the one !!! She still a beauty a lovely ship a great crew and some wonderful fun times on her. Some days I wish i never pay off her Thank you Vernon very happy times .:D:D:D
Just one for Vernon
About 1984/85 I was taking agency ships and I joined a passenger ship called the Amerikanis, Greek owned a Chandris job. She had finished a long charter to Costa Cruises.
It turned out she was the Kenya Castle of 1952 build. Vernon will be familiar with her maybe even sailed on her with Union Castle. She had a long career away into the nineteen ninety something. She was getting on a bit when I joined but a credit to a good build. One of the early cruisers in the Caribbean.
I was not a passenger ship man I did not like them, I needed the money!!!

Yes i remember that very well,as my late Uncle "Dusty" used to work on her when she was the Kenya Castle! At times i was aboard her to see Dusty ,especially when we were in Port KG5 at the same time,and that wasnt too often,but it did happen!
He was with her for a long time,left her before she became the Amerikanis,indeed she had a long Sailing History,very much like the old Dunnottar Castle that i was on,that too was sold and became Victoria,The Victoria,Princess Victoria
Also had a very long Sailing History!
Very good memories come flooding back reading your post,like the times we spent ashore in the East End,where he lived and had 6 lovely Daughters,all then of course very young,but what great times we had!
Also met in Cape Town once or twice,that of course was both his and my HomeTown (but of course being at Sea we made our Home over the Oceans!
Dusty in Londons East End,and me in Southampton later on! Thaths when i changed over to the Mail Run!
Funny thing Jimmys,i really loved the Passenger Liners,and dont think i would have changed ! I was offered a job on a Crago Ship at one stage after i left the UCL,but declined and decide to go and join the RAF!

Ithink we must have crosded paths I also was no the Arundel Castle at the same as yourself, infact I was on her last voyage before going to the breakers I joined her 7th Nov 1956 last voyage paying off Southampton 5th Nov 1958 a total of thirteen voyages I was T/C Deck Steward and T/C Lounge Steward. She was a happy ship such wounderful days they were.

The oldest ship I sailed on was the "Swanland" built 1914, three weeks working the east and north coasts of Iceland, I was 13 years old at the time
Next oldest was "Levenpool" built 1942 (ex Empire Lionel) backwards and forwards from Takoradi to Burntisland with Bauxite an old one but a happy one
