Keith #9 I went through the canal in 1970 on an Ellerman and Wilson ship (Cicero) I remember it being a short canal and not a very long transit compared with the likes of Suez and the panama.
Tony #10 It looked scary as you looked up also , there were some very solid looking cliffs towering above and very close to the ship I have no Idea what the captain and navigators thought about it but there was not a lot of room to make a mistake and I have never read about accidents on that canal.

I help close it in 1956, next went through in 1959, (or was it '60?) luckily no one recognised me!

#11... Could have been a few years transit John if you had been caught in the Bitter Lakes due to the hostility’s in the 50s. Let’s hope today those caught in the present blockage may have a bit more luck. JS. Sorry wrong answer thought you were describing the suez. Said I had just got out of bed . JS.

#1.. Going through in the 50 s and 60s Michael you wouldn’t of had the advantage either of vHF radio so distances apart in the convoy. Would have to be done on sight. All these modern electrical aids such as radar and communications has its downside also ,and people think they are invincible . Sometimes the truth is in the pudding. Going through there is a memorial on the starboard side outward bound if I recall correctly.

Large concrete looking one which I was told was an Anzac memorial and the sun shines through the exact middle on April 25th, Anzac Day.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Suez Canal Authorities are seeking $1b from the owner operators of the Ever Given.
If the case goes to court the ship will not be released until the case is over.
