Just seeing Lou standing outside his old house in Rock Ferry reminded me of the day we went over there and had a few pints in the pub on the corner of that street where Lou's mother was in fact a barmaid in the forties.A good day out was had but it would not of been complete without a finish off in the Pen & Wig.Happy Days'.

Just seen your reply. Thanks for that. I thought you had made up the video, There is one here with Lou and his late wife Peggy, a lovely and funny lady with daughter Brenda in Dunedin a few weeks before Peggy died,
I sent the photos to Brenda and to Tina who is now living in Auckland

I always say I am a good judge of character the years lou stayed away from Merseyside he never lost the rye smile the Mersey swagger and the cheeky look only we have you can take the man from the Mersey but you never take the Mersey out of the man I had the feeling he was home and the people could not get enough of him even taxi drivers would not let him put his hand in his pocket were else in the world would you get that hospitality I cant think of one?/ jp

Like all others who met Lou, I thought he was a great guy, his sense of humour undiminished despite his traumatic youth in Japan. He presented Wendy and myself with a book of Dunedin, so he will always be in our memories and also remind me of my times in Dunedin in the 50's. Don't think I can add anymore to what has already been said. We can only hope that his family can take some comfort to know that he was a well respected man by all his seafaring colleagues.
