mv mataura
July 1971, joined NZSco mv Mataura in royal albert dock, london. Just in from Napier nz, deep sea crew had gone on leave and i was standing by with chief electrician, while she unloaded. It was my first ship and was suprised how advanced she was, even back then!
I later joined mv Hauraki for my first voyage as 3rd elec.back down to earth with a bump. crew were great though!
Left oct 1971, returned march 1972.Anybody on the site made that voyage?? or info about fleet of ships?

Was the Hinekura part of that fleet? When I sailed on her, she belonged to Federal Shipping in 1962. I signed on as supernumary just for the passage from UK to NZ, via Curacao, Panama, Christmas Island (the N Pacific one), Apia, Suva, Lautoka to Bluff (NZ).
Nice ship, good crew, well fed, enjoyable voyage.
Kind regards
Mike Offord
