My maiden voyage, now was that your first trip to sea or your first voyage on a maiden, that is the question?

Especially if it was one of the maidens that came to the ships from Monty's, Ma Gleesons or the Doghouse Bar or any other of the haunts of those distressed damsels.

Mabel’s is another one that sticks in my mind, having a mental blackout as to where it was, was it one of the many on the old Dock Road in Liverpool ? JWS

And if not damsels in distress to start with were most likely after some had finished with them.

I too have enjoyed reading this thread.
I decided to write chapters of life experiences for the benefit of my children. I thought theey should know what I had been up to in life, given that I had no clear idea of my own father's escapades.
It comes quite easily and is a good therapy for the mind. Eventually - over a couple of years - I had a book, which can now be found at Amazon. ( amazon.com/author/desmiley ) The unusual career of a 20th century mariner.
If you can't find it email <marineconsultancy@hotmail.com> and I will send you the final draft.
My friends liken it to the reminiscing of a drunk sailor in the pub. That says it all!

Good Morning to all thee that write - my first thought as i read through all the anecdotes - was how lucky ? fortune ? or how unwise you might all of been - and begs the question - would you do it all over again - given half the chance ...

my sea adventure is rather dull in comparison - for the simple fact - i never went to sea - not in any shape form or manner - i did go on 4 cruises though - and the first should or would have put and end to me going on further cruises - i had mel de mar the entire time - i had heard that one tended to want to sell your soul to the devil himself - just to get your feet back on terra firmer .... - to add to my woes - 2 of the ships i sailed on - later sunk - one i had paid a ship visit to - broke down at sea .. and my love for the ocean started with my very then keen interest of the titanic ... so it bode me well . that i did not SERVE on any ship - or else i fear my " ship mates" would have made me " walk the " plank .

No my contribution to all your tales of sea life was like growing up with my nose in all the stories i buried myself in as a young lad - reading about them - and thats why i enjoyed hearing and reading your tales -- the youth of today would not quite get that grip of excitement when listening with abated breath for the tale to end... your tales take me into the book sleeves of all my past reading - so THANK YOU for sharing - and reading my less then exciting contribution....
