On a smilier vein [or wave]
Once in the middle of the western ocean, were were working in the galley in very heavy seas.
Suddenly one of the port holes shattered with chunks of glass flying every where.
Fortunately no one was injured.
Guess we should have had the dead lights down.
Any others ever experience broken ports?

Hi Dennis,
Yes I was on the EMPRESS OF FRANCE and all our cabins were flooded when the glass shattered like shrapnel, piercing the tin lockers. water every where pouring in, a terrible storm that winter. The beds and all our gear were wet through. We had a terrible job with all hands, the deck crowd, trying to batten down the ports with timber.
It is in the Voyage on Empress of France story on the SEAFARING STORIES thread.#
Can be quite dangerous.

We had a bosun aboard the M.V. PIAKO He was the worse binman i ever sailed with in fact he didn,t like himself, We filled a 42 gallon empty oil drum full of water and placed it right in the middle of his cabin with a hose through the porthole. As far as i know its still there. Terry.:pointlaugh:
