Default Did you ever go to live music concerts?

A recent post from cappy regarding Lindisfarne got me reminiscing about the live bands I have seen over the years,
    The who
    Beach boys
    Hawkwind
    Tina turner
    Led zeppelin
    Free
    Deep purple
    Slade
But the one I recall the most (and this will make cappy zealous) was Lindisfarne 's last ever Christmas concert at Newcastle city hall, a absolute blast with them being called back onstage for encore after encore.

Not many, but played gigs with plenty.
    Also saw Johnny Cash
    Beach Boys
    Roxy Music
    Buddy Guy
    Albert Lee
    Kenny Ball and Keith Ball
And a few others I've forgotten. Had some great moments, jamming with some great people.

Blimy! I can hardly remember where I saw most of them, especially in the US.

Forgot, Peter Green, John Lee Hooker. Blimy! the more I think about it there's loads.

I was employed as Executive Chef in large hotel in central California. Every summer they had big name entertainment for ten-day engagements in the summer months. I had to go to the catering office for something one morning and passed through the closed dining room and Frankie Laine had a cup of coffee in his hand and looking for sugar. I asked him if I could help him. He said is there any sugar. (it was put away). I told him, there's some in my office and took him back in the kitchen, he asked if he could sit in my office and watch the cooks

He did, and I joined him, we had a chat and he asked me if I mind him hiding out there for a cup of coffee in the morning. I said no and in he came next day. He got bugged for autos and pictures in the coffeeshop and it got boring just having his morning coffee in his room. So, we had chats and I told him the story about when my wife, then my girlfriend, and her mates went to see him when he played the Palladium in London. He was a superstar then. And it went quiet as my wife screamed out "Squeeze me Frankie" and he said, "Later Baby" and the crowd went wild.

I told him we were going to see his show that night, so he told me to bring her backstage to meet him. We got there early, checked our table, then I took out through the entrance to go down to a bar as we start down the ramp Franky Laine is coming up. now he wore glasses off-stage with lenses as thick as coke bottle-bottoms. As we came met on the ramp, he looked at me, then my wife. And said to my wife "I know you. You yelled out "squeeze me Frankie, well better late than never." and he put his arms around gave a squeeze and kissed her on the cheek. She squealed and said "I'll never wash again."

The local big wigs thew him a cocktail party for after his show and he made sure we were invited. We came in and he collard my wife took her in a corner and chatted with her, his wife Nan Grey, an ex-movie star of the 30s and 40s and I had a chat for about 10 minutes then she joined them both. My ex-wife was on cloud nine.

I only went to two large concerts both to shout and jump for "The Grateful Dead." Sat and stood in the balcony with my youngest son, my two other sons were down in the Mosh pit. All of us were "Deadheads."

    Cheers, Rodney

#9 Wasn’t it him who sang Jezebell and High Noon , remember playing juke boxes all over the world , him and Johnny Ray were two of my favourites , many others of course. Some of the stars today are a complete blank to me and have to ask who they are . JS
