1959 on the "Tremeadow" approaching the us coast and picked up the local stations, the top song on most of them was "Big John", remember the words of the song to this day.

*Big John* was first sung by Jimmy Dean, his friend John Minto , who was 6ft 5inches tall, Dean liked the sound of saying big bad john, and was the inspiration for the song. All found by google, clever lad that Google fella, he knows nearly as much as my wife.

I suspect the witch was a very unpopular politician or political leader at the time.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Back then when there were minimal forms of entertainment in comparison to today, silly songs climbed the charts. How about "I taught I saw a puddy cat."? and the "Woddy wood, wood pecker song"?

They were still in the days when people listened, and didn't as yet have that glazed look in their eyes as they walked through the moving traffic like Lemmings. fingers tapping away.
