The World War I marching song, 'Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag, and Smile, Smile, Smile' was published on 23rd November 1915. It was written by George Henry Powell (under the pseudonym of George Asaf) and his brother Felix Powell from St Asaph.

The brothers entered the song into a national competition for the best morale-building song and it won first prize. It was featured in the Broadway Musical 'Her Soldier Boy' in 1916 and has been described as "perhaps the most optimistic song ever written".
