    Smile Traditional Songs

Whilst bouncing my youngest granddaughter on my knee to the words of "The Galloping Major" made me think of our family favourites.

    Myself Marian
Just all Rock and Roll !
That was a great time! very late 40's into the 50's and 60's

After that I really didn't like much of what followed ,there were a few good ones but not many!

When I was very Young however I can recall the older time Songs that my Parents used to listen to ,and some of it was good! In the very early 40's

The few times I got home to see the kids in their early years their repertoire was " Clap hands for Daddy coming up the River Tyne, with a pocketful of money, and a bag full of Wine". Taught them by the wives parents, so tried to fulfil their wishes re. the second part of the jingo. They being teetotlars at times didn't appreciate. Whats wrong with the Lambton Worm, thought that fitted the bill adequately especially the great big goggly eyes bit. Cheers JS

    Elaine's current favourite is
Up among the heather on the hill o' Benachie
A bumbee stung me weel above the knee
A bumbee stung me weel above the knee
Up among the heather on the hill o' Benachie

Followed closely by 'Donald where's yer troosers?' and 'Campbelltoon Loch'. My favourite bit of the latter is 'It's the polis afloat in a dirty great boat'.

Then 'Three blind mice' et al, she and Vinoria sometimes have me singing until I'm hoarse.
