Stanley St. is where Miss Rigby sits on her bench. Any closer?

The statue of Miss Rigby, bench etc was designed and made by Tommy Steele.

Tommy (Hicks) Steele used to be a merchant seaman so that could be Jims maritime connection.

So ok lads lets put this one to bed.The question was two comics came to Liverpool in 1982 and are still there. We have now established that the Dandy and Beano were the comics.Tommy Steele was the sculptor of the bronze of Eleanor Rigby.Thsi should close it,did you ever play hide the button when you were a kid???there was a scale freezing to red hot.If you were sitting on the other end of the bench away from Eleanor you would be warm,if you put your arm around Eleanor you would be red hot and on fire!!!!!Surely that must settle it.I also want to know what else you would find with the comics!!
    Regards.

    With the comics are

a four leaf clover representing Nature
a page of the Bible representing Spiritual Matters
    a football sock representing Leisure
a 'Dandy' and 'Beano' comic representing Comedy
    four sonnets representing Romance.

    and a ' sparrow '

would be very painful to sit on that !!!!

So well done to Chris for coming up with the answer.
Tommy Steele did the sculpture as a "Thank You" to the people of Liverpool for all the happy times he'd spent here.
He said he sold it to Liverpool Council for "Half a Sixpence" but in fact Liverpool paid for the casting etc.Tommy gave his time for free.
We had a good run out of that one which I found interesting, thanks for the input lads.
    Regards.

    Tribute:

On the wall behind the figure is an inscribed plaque which reads as follows:

ELEANOR RIGBY DEDICATED TO "ALL THE LONELY PEOPLE,,,"

This statue was sculpted and donated to the City of Liverpool

by Tommy Steele as a tribute to the Beatles.

The casting was sponsored by the Liverpool Echo.

    DECEMBER 1982
