    Default Is there anybody there?

    Wow, no-one else from Mobil?
On the off chance someone else drops in here's a few details of my time with them.
Joined as cadet in 1974, went to Poplar Tech.
Sailed on Refiner and Producer, then back to Poplar for third phase.
After that it was Pinnacle, Petroleum, Magnolia, Hawk etc. Did the last trip on the Energy before she was sold. Ended up on the Matco Avon doing month on/month off.
By that point I had my combined Chiefs, but personnel reckoned it would be at least 5 years till I got to the top of the list and got a seconds job, so we amicably parted ways and I joined BP North Sea.

I was Marconi Marine R/O on MOBIL ASTRAL / GMOH from Feb 1970 until August 1970.
Joined her in Bahrain and left by launch passing Capetown.
Spent six weeks as first ship to use the new drydock at Skaramangas.

The first Master was Captain "Gentleman" George. A lovely old-timer who deserved his nickname.
He was relieved by the aptly named "Black" Angus - a drunken sot.

Sadly I did not record the names of any shipmates.

I knew two guys in Mobil, surname Nash who were engineers as their father was a mate of mine in another company. Also another engineer called Gordon Bentley.
A very close friend of mine was Terry Wright, mate. Unfortunately he died from cancer about 20 odd years ago which he reckoned was from inhaling gas while working cargo. Great character and good friend.
