This may be a shot in the dark.
Does anyone know if there is a book on COE MATCALF SHIPPING.
I have managed to obtain the small pamphlet of Metcalf motor coasters.
This Pamphlet only goes up to 1965.
I am sure there were more ships built after this date for Metcalf.
Any help will be very welcome.

Try this. They were certainly going in the 70's and even afterwards. I had a 2nd mate with me in the 90's whose last outfit had been Metcalf's but he had been ashore for a couple of years running a b&b in Norway with his Norwegian wife. They had returned to N.Ireland when she became ill with cancer. Strange to hear anyone with a strong Irish accent speaking Norwegian. There is also a number of references to them on the internet. Believe they were taken over by F.T. Everard's who were later taken over by Fishers of Barrow. Can recall seeing the Michael M in the early 90's.

Spent several days in Seaforth container dock in early seventies, discharging fuel oil into a Metcalfs rock dodger, our deck boys were greatly entertained by the Metcalfs mate who checked tank ullages by spitting into the open hatch.

I was on the "Scheldt" of Wm. H. Muller & Co on the London/Paris trade for nearly three years from 1967 until 1970. The trade ceased in 1970 and she was sold to Metcalfs and renamed "Thomas M" I stayed in her for a few months before paying off in Chepstow.

There is some good information on Ships Nostalgia about Metcalfs and the tie up with Coe's. Just type in "Metcalfs motor coasters" and the info will come up, A very complicated take over.

Sorry. but it doesn't help in finding a book Mike but they did acquire ships after 1965 although second hand.

I know someone who has/is preparing a book on Coe Metcalf, when it comes to print I do not know.
Coes were taken over by Fishers and the company name changed to James Fisher (Liverpool) Ltd.
Metcalf's were one of the first to operate motor ships, Coe one of the last to operate steam and apart from the ships built at Burntisland for Metcalf's (JOHN, NICHOLAS, FRANK and EILEEN M's) they seemed to order one off's or buy secondhand - sorry pre-loved- ships

There are two volumes due to be published, first covering Fishers I believe,s one For Metcalf.
They will be published by Clarkson's.
