One Metcalf boat was sunk by the IRA
Hello Mike.
I served in Coe Metcalf Shipping from May 77 as 2nd mate to Dec 2007, retiring as senior master. The only book I remember during that time was Around the Coast and Across the Seas. It came out on the 150th anniversary of James Fisher and Sons. In the early 90’s the board of Coe Metcalf approached James fisher to acquire them from the Booker group. It was around this time that pert of the BP coastal fleet was sold to Metcalfs. The next acquisition was the ex Rowbotham fleet bought from P&O Tankships Ltd. in the last three years of the 1990’s there was a large building program of 10 clean product tankers and in the few years before I retired they took over the Everard fleet.
If you’d like to borrow the book please let me know.

Hi all
I sailed with Coe Metacalf 1984/85/86 as 2nd/Chief Engineer.
Hawthorn, Quickthorn, Whitethorn (drill ship) and Pholas (drill ship).
I knew John Metcalf [captain] when he worked for Atlas shipping part of the Gulfeast shipping lines.
I am led to believe that there is book on the above named companies due to be published in the near future.
Vic
Hi Vic,That will be an interesting read,I sailed with them from 1975 to 1978.
