The Greens say El Nino is caused by global warming due to the burning of fossil fuels and is man made.
. I read a book by a sailing ship master , I think it was "The Cape Horn Breed" of a voyage round the Horn bound for San Francisco in 1886
He wrote , "as they were sailing along the coast of Peru, the sea was covered from horizon to horizon with dead fish and with dead sea birds and pelicans, the sea was hot." and it was El Nino. It appears around every 15 years.
So it is not a new phenomenon, it has been here since time began.

Hi Keith.
They are predicting an EL Nino out here , we are already in drought conditions for the last three years in the outback of NSW and Queensland. About twenty years ago the winds that brought the rains up from the roaring forties that used to sweep up around the southern half of Australia suddenly started to fall short of the country, the scientists at the time put this down to the hole in the ozone layer above the Arctic, later when this hole apparently [maybe ]closed, the winds didn't change and now we are missing out on the rains needed, this is one of the reasons put down for the increase in bush-fires as the bush is tinder dry, with this problem on top of the EL Nino we are in for a bad time.

We had an 'expert' on TV last night who said again that the seas around Oz will rise as the ice melts, just around Oz according to him. Funny thing is when it freezes water expands so one would assume when thawed it would take up less room not more!
