    Hi Mike

Thanks for that link. Thank goodness that all on board were rescued. I think that full time crew must be given full credit for getting everyone off as I would expect a large number of those on board would be trainees.

For mre info on the Asgard I've added this link

Very sad indeed but lets be thankful no one was drowned, seems from various accounts on the web and its only speculation say that her “sea cocks” failed. I experienced something similar on ESSO Cardiff - a weld splitting outboard of the main circulating pump and in the end as we entered NDSM in Amsterdam two bilge pumps and the fire pump were only just holding on. Don’t know if they will be able to salvage her she is in some 90M of water and as winter approaches there seems little hope.

    Dear mister Steve,

I think you sailed on the Esso Cardiff the same time my father was chief engineer Bob Bailey was his name. Maybe you remember him? I would be very happy with any information about him, because he is my father. I am born in Amsterdam november 1963, he was at that time back to his home falmouth in england. I know I have siblings in england, but do not know if they also know about me. I have seen my father once when I was 18 but after that never again (he promised to stay in contact but somehow that didn't work) I would like to know more about family members because if I google on the name Bailey I find them all over the world

if you know anything it would make me very happy.

    with regards,

    Sylvia

    Default Bob Bailey

    Dear Sylvia,

Indeed I do remember your Father Bob Bailey, Chief Engineer and I remember him as a kindly Gentleman and it was a privilege to have sailed with him.

I am afraid that I have no more information only that I recall him retiring to his home town of Falmouth.

Sorry I can’t be any more help and lets hope this post will prompt some of the ESSO members to scan their memories.

    Best Regards

    Steve Sherratt R770014 South Derbyshire
