A bit late in the day but think I knew your Grandad and as a more recent post mentioned the crankcase explosion on her which fits in with your dates. Much belated commiseration for your grandfather , and think I last saw him in the jungle in North Shields with the rest of the survivors from the same explosion and sailed with them on the next ship the Ravensworth. Don’t believe your grandad was there though, the 2 engineer who I was trying to remember his name, for Lewis who comes from the same area was promoted to chief engineer , if you know his name to assist my memory would be appreciated .know this is an old post but worth a try.
