JS # 21 I always thought that putting a Gideon in the top drawer of every room in every seaman's mission was a complete waste of time-like shutting the proverbial stable door after it's bolted-the horse that is and not the securing arrangement for the door. One frequenter of such hostels told me the thin paper was ideal for his 'roll-ups' !
No,better reading material for each room while you're waiting for that hopefully delayed(!) ship might be a Local Luscious Lovely Lasses guide (telephone numbers edition) and a Guide to Local Hostelries within Walking Distance.Attachment 32742Attachment 32743

Got into Google earth and looked at one of the pubs we had.
Changed a bit on the outside, now has outside tables something the local council would never allow us back then.
Garden just about gone to extend car park and a new entry to restaurant which was apart from the pub.

Got an Ivanhoe Hotel just up the road here JS but i can vouch that it has not one Bible ! LOL
