ha ha John, sounds about right, my now wife told me she was fed up with me turning up to take her out wearing my "uniform" - desert boots, jeans and sweater; and by the way, if you have a pint in the afternoon, dont bother coming for me in the evening.

Me, I follow my own fashion, easy here in Oz, no one comments.
Dress code is what you feel comfortable in, only down turn is the pubs, no thongs or sleeveless shirts after 1800 hours.
Hot on in a restaurant, so what my hat wear it where I like,
There are some up market places but 'normal' people do not go there.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

First pair of wranglers i bought was when I was on the Port Victor in 1963 off to Aus & Kiwi. We us to fray the legs at the bottom by remove an inch of white cotton. On the aft deck used a heaving rope and tied to jeans at the waist and a stern cleat. Then threw them over in the sea for 2 days. Soon faded and the girls took to us in the ports with our long hair and earing in the left ear.

    Hi Robin
I was desperate to get an earring because one of my shipmates had one. We were in Buenos Aires and went out drinking there was a girl in the boozer with her ears pierced when we got on to the subject she said that she could pierce my ear for me, so half p****d I went for it !!! she used a bottle cork and a sewing needle , job done, problem , no earring !! so I ended up with a piece of thread through my ear supposedly until I could get an earring !!I went around the boat for about a week like a real dick head with this bit of thread in my ear until the ribbing got too much and out it came .
I did however get the job done in Plymouth not long after and like you enjoyed the popularity of the long hair, gold earring and of course the denims.
    Happy, Happy Days.

Well George similar to myself. Except that I did it to myself and ended up with thread through the lughole. As we where at sea at the time. Getting a ear ring was put on the back burner. Tied up and found that the pub was before the jewelers so out with the thread and in with the grog. To this day still have not got around to wasting hard earned drinking money of such stuff
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

Could it be she though with the thread through you ear she could take you anywhere.
Maybe she saw you as her puppy, to take walking on a lead?
