Reasearch
Hi Vernon.
I am hopeless with research, more so now with my eye site being bad, so wondered if you could find out about my wife's Uncle, Percival or may be Percevel Meldrum, she says he was torpedoed three times, but died in a fight in a pub.
That s all she knows about him, Thanks
Des

Re: Reasearch
Des, could that be a misprint when you say he died in a pub.
Could that have been in the Sub??

Re: Reasearch
Hi Vernon
She doesn't really know to much about him, he could have been born in Durham like her father, and could have been Percy James, her dad's first name was James and people used to use the same names sometimes. He was definitely MN, sailed as a stoker, and according to her recollection was torpedoed three times. He was a big bloke six foot, and might have caused the fight in the pub, fell down some steps and fractured his scull and died. That's the sum total she knows about him

Re: Reasearch
Hi Des
Very hard without at least a Year of Birth mate, as there are so many Records to go through.
You say Certainly Merchant Navy, and mention Torpedoed , which makes me think it may just be the James Percy i was looking at, as his Records dont give a DOB, but he was connected to the the T124X which as you know were Merchant Seaman assigned to Royal Navy Ships during WW2.
So this may well be your Man.
Now the only way to make sure of course is to apply for his Records from the National Archives, the Link is here. Look at the Year of Birth would that be approx, ?????
Name: Meldrum, James Percy. Service number: not known. Date of birth: 1898. | The National Archives
To request a Copy of this Record.

But remember as said may or may not be him. Up to you or the dear Lady in Question.
Best of Luck Des!
Cheers

Re: Reasearch
Hi Vernon
She says 1898 that was when he was born. after the war he jumped ship n Queensland and was there for five years despite being married and having a daughter, came back and that's when he was killed in the fight. the rest is a total blank

Re: Reasearch
Well Des as the Birth Year is confirmed then its your Man.
So hopefully someone will go ahead and Order the Docs. But of course that depends on how much anyone is interested in obtaining them.
Good Luck
Vernon
