Chart correction aids
As a follow on from the voyage plan post,
When doing your chart corrections did you have any aids.
I always used a hacksaw blade when inserting a new underwater cable but as for inserting new bouys had to rely on the chart correction pen nib being small enough to give you a neat entry. Actually used to carry my own chart correcting pen and spare 0.1 nib. Staedler was the manufacturer and it was a cartridge type of pen so needed to carry spare cartridges it all went into my sextant box which I carried right up to the time I got promoted to chief mate by which time the company was putting sextants on all ships.
I sailed with one 2nd mate who carried his own box of rubber stamps for all the different shapes and types of bouys, apparently there was a Glasgow chart and nautical publications supplier who sold those stamps.

Re: Chart correction aids
Yes , used to use these correction pens. Always had two nibs , black and red.
The last year of my time as 2nd.mate we had the tracings , made life a bit easier especially with a world folio.

Re: Chart correction aids
Well according to the new President of the USA ,one of the biggest and easiest chart corrections will,be for all those budding second mates, the renaming of the Mexican Gulf to the American Gulf, why not ? Just have to hope the French don’t get similar ideas about the English Channel,,they had feelers out years ago.JS.

Hi John.
How about the Italian sea for the Med, the Sudanese Gulf for the Red Sea. We could make a new world
Just paid my news paper bill and the two Ladies where hanging a big Australian flag up, I asked is that for the Trump inorgaration? they both doubled up laughing, then when I was outside I realized it will be Australia Day soon. DU

Think the Mediterranean is either Latin or Greek for the Middle Sea ? So a good descriptive fair name would be the Middle for Diddle sea. JS..

Re: Chart correction aids
Reading what he has passed in executive orders in his first day is mind boggling.
But had to laugh at one newspaper report, obviously the journalist does not like Trump, he wrote that Trump thinks asylum seekers are escapees from an asylum?????
But it certainly make for interesting time.
In USA now, no more EV, drill for oil and gas, make sure there are enough drugs for lethal injections, out of the Paris climate agreement, out of WHO and many other decrees.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Chart correction aids
Just got my IPad back yesterday as was not receiving email next time it goes it goes for good. When it costs $170 just to get someone to look at that’s enough for me. Trump for all his dislikeable features to some is still the choice of the American people and must strike a chord of what they want for their country. America has like other countries been taken a loan of by other countries as being their benefactor for many years and the burden as always falls on the citizens of the benefactor , and can quiet see where he is coming from. He is not to everyone’s taste , but who is when it comes to politics. My opinion would be let the man get on with the job and prove he is the right mixture for his countries woes , it is the majority that rules like any democracy. JS

HI John.
He must have frightened hell out of one of the deportees in his sights. An Iraqi flew from the States to Israel stabbed three people in a restaurant, then the police shot him dead. One down only ten million to go. Another slip up by intellegence.
