Iron Mike
Curious case in NZ where an inquiry has found the grounding and sinking of a navy ship occurred because no one realised the ship was in auto pilot when it hit a reef. Surely a huge clue would have been there wasn't a helmsman standing by the wheel.

#2. Alternatively the term Iron Mike some may have thought they were referring to Iron Mike (Tyson) will now have to start taking his vitamin tablets to recoup some of that metal. The first thing in this post to step a further pace forward is to upgrade the automatic helmsman to think for itself , believe some cars already can do that ?

Re: Iron Mike
Hi Louis.
One thing you may have forgotten , it was a Navy ship, there would have been around ten in the wheelhouse, all hoping that the others knew what they where doing, and as someone may have put his cap on the Iron Mike, it being to hot, they would all have been speaking to to him giving orders at the same time but it making no difference.

Re: Iron Mike
Certainly strange, I have not read all of the inquiry findings but if the ship was in difficulty's I would have thought the first thing to do was stop engines until the problem was solved. Much criticism has been against the captain who was a woman.

Re: Iron Mike
#5 And the quickest way to take the way of the vessel would be to go from full ahead to half ahead to slow ahead and to dead slow ahead before stopping. No mention of what type of vessel but depending on her displacement some ships can carry way for up to 12 miles. Was she bridge controlled , how many screws did she have there are so many factors to consider that a judgement that we give is only on assumptions. Doesn’t matter what sex the person in charge was, obviously whatever action taken was not sufficient.
If was a naval vessel the loss of any vessel whether in peace or war requires Court Martial proceedings. So whether in camera or not will be interesting to hear. JS

Re: Iron Mike
Right now in NZ the Govt are trying to change the Treaty of Waitangi, so don't hold your breath about a small ship inquiry. They have already shut down the Maori only Health system and are having to try to get integration started, something that hasn't fully happened since the Treaty was signed.

Re: Iron Mike
The lot in NZ sound as bad as some of ours here in Oz.
They get all the best of treatment and more but still say they are left out.
An example, to get home assistance package here you must be over 65 and on state pension.
For the Aboriginals they only have to be 50 and no pension.
