    Default Latest Glen Sannox Delay

Although the Ship has now been handed over and is now in process of Berthing and bunker trials.
The latest delay which caused her handover to Cmal 4 days, was a faulty anchor.
They reckoned that they could lower the anchor but not raise it (Brewers droop?).
A temporary fix has been deployed until a permanent solution is available.

What did they do shove a deck boy down the Hawse pipe to guide it in.

The only ships I saw with problems with anchor stowage were deep sea vessels with so called self stowage lockers ? The average tramp ship had 8/15 on one anchor and 9/15 on the other. Where I never saw a problem with anchor stowage were cable stowage was off shore where cable lengths were 29/15 or 30/15 (shackles)
The problem to me was lack of foresight on the locker design I.E . The size of the lockers. In the case of the deep water vessels a hand with a broom handle was usually required at the chain locker door to push the cable into the confined space. JS

Do not if these facts are correct as they are from Wikipedia.

£97 million original contract for two ferries. £380 million as of June 2024, and £45 million loan written off.

Ordered October 2015, Laid down February 2017 and Launched Novemeber 2017.

As the old saying goes lessons will be learnt. From one of the greatest ship building nations in the world to an absolute laughing stock.
Camell Lairds also when they built the research vessel Sir David Attenborough 3 years later and millions over budget. Be interesting to see haw they get on with the new Mersey Ferry they have started building last month.
Best not mention the Aircraft Carriers the RN got £7billion what a joke.

Read somewhere the problem with the anchor was down to the gypsy wheel, not the cable storage. Possibility of the cable links either not sitting on the gypsy correctly or the lead from the hawse to the gypsy not being aligned correctly.

In the heyday of British Shipbuilding, the yards had their own design and Naval Architects, now seems it's all done abroad.
The Romanian Design team sent 20,000 drawings to Fergusons during the pandemic.
What happened to in house teams?

I know when I started with Ocean they had their own inhouse naval architect department. I am sure that the first generation OCL Bay Boats were designed in India buildings and the design was put out to tender.
When serving my time at Lairds I spent time in the drawing office.

#1 Vic it was usual years ago on ships as I was on that the actual handing over after trials was not the end of the matter. There was usually a clause in the agreement that the ship until the final building fees were handed over that the ship to all intents and purposes still belonged to the builders yard. The final instalments were usually paid about 12 months ,after at the guarantee Drydock. I was on the Maratha Envoy built by Mitsibuishi in Yokohama , however the gurantee drydock ran on to 18 months later than normal , so my repair and alterations list was longer and there were quiete a few things to alter and they did get done after the usual arguments . However the plaque in the wheelhouse saying the vessel belonged to the builders yard finally came down and all monies paid .Cheers JS
