    They will find some way round it like enterprise agreements, P&O are notorious for this sort of thing even when I was at sea.

    Reardon Smith usually carried Indian crews and one ship was visited by the International Transport Federation who insisted the crew be paid European rates. One of the crew returned to another ship and told us that the Indian Government took the extra from them as it would upset the balance with other workers. Even their £25/month in the 1970s was enough to pay servants.

    One thing, all the Indian firemen I sailed with came from Cardiff or Swansea, the Indian Govt wouldn't have seen their wages, their Indian memsahibs would have seen to that.

    P&O will probably pitch a few tents on a campsite near Dover and tell the crews they are on two on two off, minimal rent for the tents.
