    Hello Glyn
You have a good eye despite the poor quality picture, the hull I bought was said to be a “standard” SAM hull from the Bethlehem shipyard in Baltimore, and from the plans it was a ship named “City of Ely”, which after researching proved to be the ex “Samarina” built by Bethlehem. I would assume that the “Samariz” would be a very similar sister ship.

    Hello Chris
Depends what level/size/cost you want to have a go at, there is a company in Peterburgh called Deans Marine I have looked at online and they seem to have a good name, who do ships/boats of all sizes and costs.

Could be a sister ship of the Samtampa that went down off the Welsh coast, taking the Mumbles lifeboat with it.

Hi Chris, I am sorry to say that I don't know of any retailer who offers miniature ship model kits but would suggest that you give scratch building a go. And a good place to start is via a very good introduction to the hobby ..."Waterline Ship Models" by Lt. Commander Talbot Booth. I bought it hard back second hand from Abebooks (on LIne) and not expensive. The book explains about basic techniques and materials and is supported by lots of interesting ship plans at the scale 1" to 100ft. You can , of course, alter the scale to suit and add extra detail.

Also, I can recommend The "Hobbies Annual " catalogue ( On Line) which carries a huge range of model kits of ALL types, and a superb selection of modelling materials and Tools etc.

    Cheers

    Pete

To all who gave me information on Model ship building.
I have found a company in Germany (Fentens paper models) and am awaiting my first kit of two coasters to arrive.
Thanks once again for the help.

Good luck to you all in building model ships. I never tried to scratch build only kit form. It more than thirty years since I last built anything. I still have kits in boxes unopened etc.
Some one mentioned card models bought one in a corner shop while in holiday in Greece unopened.
Building scratch models, have some early magazines by E. C. Talbot- Booth describing the process.

    Hi Bill.
My son made me a model of the Cutty Sark, did a great job, as I have given all my ships in bottles away it was a great model to put on a shelf in my room.
