Re: shields pier lighthouse
Was trying to remember but don’t think it was one of the two sets of leading lights for entering between the piers . Remember the second light of the first set was in line with the Black Middens , the first light at the end of North Shields Fish Quay. That is if memory still working . When the Zephros went aground in 1947 the Greek skipper missed the piers altogether and his excuse was he mistook a new Zebra Crossing in Tynemouth for a pier light. Probably where that old joke originated , why did the chicken cross the road .? Because it saw the Zebra Crossing ?

I paid off the Cairnnavon up the in 1955 next time I saw her she was high and dry on the breakwater. that North sea can be a treacherous place at times.
