How come that about 5 miles up river we can build state of the art warships on time & reasonably on budget
Fergusons yard was always regarded as the best on the Clyde for smaller ships even when Lithgows were building the first supertanker & Scott wer building Submarine for Foreign navies There was no lack of skills on the lower Clyde
Total mis management & interference by SNP Hamza Yousef must be crazy to accept the poison chalice

I know its a long time ago, but I spent three days in Fergusons, early 2000's on the CalMac vessel Hebrides, as far as I recall there were no fundamental issues that were apparent, it just appeared to operate like any other at the time.

Considering how frustrating it must be the locals themselves have a sense of humour.:)

Strange article the story is about Cal Mac but the photo is slagging off Logan Air, or as they call it Logan Scair, not Cal Mac. However the sentiment applies to both companies. I think the photo comes from earlier in the year when Logan Air cancelled loads of flights.

They were built to the Sydney Ferries design? not off the shelf.

Age is not a consideration as long as they are maintained regularly, it seems they come to Cammell Laird's Shipyard in Birkenhead for that service

The Sydney Ferry South Stayne that I worked on in 2000 had been built in Lieth in 1932 the same year I was born, steam driven and still when I left her could still have taken 1,800 passengers for a trip up the coast, biggest steam ferry in the world. Now layed up in Balmain Sydney; no doubt left to rust away.

Well Marian, while they are stuck where they are no harm will come to them.

The initial design of the new Ferries was carried out by Houlder Naval architects.

I may be wrong but the problem with the Cal Mac new ferries may well lie with Scottish Government & the ship yard. Houlder Naval architects would appear to have a proven track record.
