Re: 1975 salaries
John.
How would you like to be back as a steward, by those figures one would be working 91 hours a week, people didn't work those hours back in the 30.s.

Re: 1975 salaries
Forget all your loss of doss agreements that a lot on site were acquainted with. I doubt if any shipowner does pay overtime now unless someone knows different. The offshore agreements here in Australia was a 12 hour day in any case although I never enforced it as it was swings and roundabouts the same as all hours at sea . I once went 26 hours without even getting off the controls standing as well in the North Sea . After snatching a backload at one of the northerly rigs , queried the OIM after 12 hours and he said we expect our masters do 18 hours at a stretch . Good I said then you’ve got 1 hour left. He was gone about 20 minutes and came back with the sob story he had so many heli empty fuel tanks to clear to get a clear deck and would I work job and finish , needless to say it went to 26 hours , and then fog all the way back to Lerwick. Think I have said this before . Cheers JS.

Re: 1975 salaries
Des, as officers steward working up to 14 hours a day was not unusual.
We had to be on call for engineers and sparkie along with a few others who like us had accommodation on the boat deck.
Coming off watch and wanting a beer or food we had to be there for them.
Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.
