Think this electric car thing is becoming all to common. The guy that cleans our windows (moon lighting) when on leave. He works for Stena on the Birkenhead Belfast route. In the last 3 months there has been 2 electric car fires on the car decks. He says Stena are talikng about doing a revue on the carraige of EV vehicles. On both occassions the vehicles concerned were hooked up to the didicated charging point.

The Norwegian Ferry operators refuse to carry electric cars, and that is a country which has more electric cars per 100 people than any other country. How soon before they are banned from the trains in the Chunnel.

Would you want one sitting in your garage at night when you read of increasing numbers on our roads and in our car parks bursting into flames. The BBC had a programme on last night about electric vehicles and it was very biased towards them, although one chap who was an advocate of EVs prior to purchasing one, less than a year after purchase he went back to petrol, said his journies took three times as long with the EV, when he needed a charger en-route they were invariably occupied, when you did get one you had a minimum 30 minute charging period to get a reasonable distance again, and what really pizzed him off were the diesel/petrol cars pulling in, filling up, paying and back on the road within 5/7 minutes. There are rapid chargers that will charge your battery full in 15 minutes, but are only suited to very expensive cars with specialised batteries, they would destroy the batteries of the average EV, apparently the warning is in small print, that sounds about right!

And they very thoughtfully mentioned that you could get a drink and a sandwich while you wait for your car to charge, so with a cup of coffee at about £2.50, and a sandwich at about £6.00, you really will be saving money, i think not. My youngest son has the Vauxhall Mocca, i think its called, its a lease car, and he cannot wait to end the contract. He cannot charge from home, because of how his house is situated, and he says its now about the same price to fully charge as it cost to fill his previous Honda Jazz. As they pointed out last night, where is all this electricity going to be generated?. Just watch the price of a decent second hand diesel or petrol car , if this 2230 plan goes ahead, worth buying yourself a nice petrol car a couple of years before it comes in. Anyway in another 7 years i shall be 91, IF i am still here , i don't think i will still be driving.

Eh! don't give up yet lad, my friend at 91 bought himself a new Audi Q3 4 wheel drive, mind you with today's roads and rate of repair you may be better off investing in a tracked vehicle.

and there are lots and lots of ferries in Norway and tunnels, which may be the next incident area waiting to happen.

Saw a YouTube video of a car on fire on the autobahn in Germany..... the fire brigade simply could not put it out with conventional means......they could merely contain it and allow it to burn to a molten mass.
This also led to the road/carriageway requiring major repair work due to the subsequent damage.....so the incident had much longer disruption and much greater costs involved.

How do shippers get away with transporting these electric cars on ships with crews unable to deal with these situations. One dead others injured with some jumping for there lives. They're only seafarers. Does anybody care, electric cars are the future!?

EU has passed a law that every EU member must provide EV charging points every 60 km (38 miles)on major roads and hydrogen recharging points every 125 km (80 miles) by 2025 wonder how they are going to power them all. Look on the bright side, if you ever run out of battery the furthest you'll have to push your car is 19 miles.
