I was on the NZ coast when all that was going on, we didn't get that much news about it. Many have attributed those strikes in the MN to it's demise, but I think it was the Govt's decision to agree with the UN's decision to give many ships away to various countries to help them after te war that was the main cause, followed by the Box. From my perspective those blokes broke their health trying to improve things.
but as always it's the people like John Prescott who benefited.

#1 If it’s something the government want to keep quite about Des they stick an M notice on it . Normal cases they last for 30 years . They are then available for any citizen to view. Me I’ve never even heard of the Castilian
Anyone who knows something they shouldn’t they probably are accident prone in any case. Cheers JS .

Doc', The name Castilian, to me, suggests she was one of Ellerman and Papayannis' ships. When I sailed with them in the mid fifties she was certainly on the fleet register. AJ.

    Hi Casso,

This site does so much for people interested in family history that it is time to return the favour. Eight family trees on Ancestry.co.uk feature George. A few of them have entries in the tens of thousands. I've ignored those and gone for one that has just a few hundred people as it is more likely to be close family.

I've messaged the person whose tree it is (JA Pearson) and drawn their attention to this thread. They must be close to George as they have a copy of Seaman's Voice as his profile pic. I have asked them to either reply here or get in touch with me.

    Fingers crossed.

    Will

Hi Keith here R773021, Turned up whilst I was researching something else. The Castillian berthed London August 9 1960, The mate gave an order to four firemen and two deck-hands which they refused to carry out. The men were charged at the local police station 10 August. However, a total of 16 men which appeared at Thames Magistrates Court 8 were fined and 8 recieved a 1 months jail sentence. The jaill sentences were appealed at the London Appeal Court 21/10/60 and changed to fines of £36 plus costs. What happened that a total of 16 men appeared in the court its impossible to tell without accessing the court records. If I get anything else i'll post again.
