Hi Karen, I am not going to speculate about whether the port of discharge is Wellington or not but I think the reason for discharge was by mutual agreement 'Form M' sometimes written as just 'M'.
It was introduced for the mutual release of seamen at the end of a voyage and it ensures that the ship's master, owner(s) cannot be held liable for any claims, wages or otherwise pertaining to the voyage.

    Hi Both

It was the Cressington Court, I now see that the first lot of crew listed joined at South Shields so it makes sense that it is The Tyne. I was thrown by my grandfather joining in Shanghai.

Thanks for the reply Hugh. We have found his arrival in Wellington and can also see that he is on the crew list for the return journey but his name is crossed out so that all ties up with him being discharged on arrival at Wellington. Interesting to know that it is likely simply by mutual agreement.
