Re: Merchant Navy WWII
The green ID card I still have somewhere in the house . Had your finger prints and a proper description of yourself,
Not tall dark and handsome and never wears long trousers as you probably tried to describe yourself . You should have the same ID cards as well as the red one with the Thoughts of Mao se Tung on the cover. Cheers JS

Re: Merchant Navy WWII
GOt my Discharge Book with number, R594520 on 17 July 1973, and joined 1st ship, ss"Pacific Importer" in Cardiff in August. I know I signed my apprenticeship documents before completing course at King TEd's which was just as well as it saved me from being expelled for burning exam papers.

It wasn't a book john, it was a green piece of card, with four sections on one side and four sections on the other, folded into four, about the same size as the white identity cards we had in WWII. My scanner is kaput, no doubt someone will have the ability to put one up on here. I never had the Red Book
I still have my WWII ID card and also my 'Green' MN ID Card
White card 8cm x 12.5cm (5in x 8in)
Green card 8cm x 12.5 cm folded : 8cm x 32cm unfolded (5in x 12.75in)

Re: Merchant Navy WWII
I am sure my ID card was green, and the only thing i was asked to return after leaving the sea. My original card had fallen apart, and through the pool i had to go for a new one. Only some time later and back at sea, did i notice he had got my number wrong, instead of R689***, he had got R686***, i never bothered to get it put right, and sailed for a couple of years like that.

Lost my Green Card along with all my other Papers like my Discharge Book, and my other RAF Book as well, due to a big Error on the part of the British Metropoliton Police!
They would never own up to loosing my goods though! Damn!!!
But i did keep a Picture of what was on my Green ID Card, looks terrible. Will try and find it, also have a Pic of my Discharge Book Picture! Not the Book.
Cheers
