Our PM has said today there will be no referendum on Oz becoming a republic.
Mainly as he got his a*** kicked on the last one on the "voice".

Some still say Charles is head of state, not sure where that comes from.
Charles is head of the British Commonwealth of Nations, about 47 at last count and Oz is one.

Barton, the first PM of Australia after it became the Commonwealth of Australia not just a collection of states.
After he lost the election he went back to law, became the had of the supreme court.
In 1907 he ruled that the head of state would be the Govenor general and so it is today.

Those of the republican movement say the current system is undemocratic, but should we ever become a republic it is quite possible the same system of appointing the GG will continue.
That is the gov of the day select him.

Any system where the public can vote for one could well see a USA style situation where the one with the most money wins.

What make sit worse for the republicans is Mary from Tasmania, now to become Queen of Netherlands.
She is from Tassie so allowances must be made but for thew republicans a smack in the face.

In the slightest why should it. ? I can or my son has gone way back before the Napoleonic wars to the 14/15 century’s when there were Sabourns as Keelboatmen on the River Tyne.
Am almost sure that the monkey arrested as a spy at west hartlepool was no relation.
    Cheers JS
That monkey intrigues me, dressed in a French sailor rig, but, his dialect corrupting his spoken French done him in.
Coming from French Guyana as those Hartlepool apes said at his trial gave them the rope to hang him with, sad.....

An article on the net today about the largest Apes that ever roamed the earth.
Died out as they could not cope with environmental changes that took place over a couple of centuries.
Climate change is a slow process, it does not happen overnight as some would make us believe.
