re: Ships that you have served on that had WWII history
Just an observation, you can get a list of ships that served in WWII from a number of sources, including all those that were lost, maybe it should be posed as 'Ships that you have served on that had WWII history' perhaps would make it more relevant.

In 1961 I sailed on Royal Mail’s “Pardo”, I’ve since read that she was involved in the N.African landings.

Re: Ships that you have served on that had WWII history
I sailed for two years on the Trevose from 1949 but never thought of finding out what she had been through during the war as most ships in those days had done so, and later on some of the old rust buckets I was on had also sailed during the war, a near explosion would have sent some of them to the bottom.

In 1954 I spent a year, 3 voyages, on the RMS Balantia, the Balantia was originally called the ss Samfaithful, one of the American liberty ships built in a hurry for convoy duty during WW2. To my knowledge Royal Mail Lines bought 4 of these 'Sam' boats from the government after hostilities ceased. No idea if the Balantia did any convoy duties during the war.

Built April 1944, so will have seen some war service, scrapped in Shanghai in April 1969, so a one trip wonder gave service for 25 years

Re: Ships that you have served on that had WWII history
the Admiralty requisitioned three more merchant hulls, while still on the stocks, for completion as NAIRANA Class escort carriers.
Two of the ships chosen were sisters, fast cargo-passenger ships being built for the Port Line Ltd, of London; the PORT PIRIE by John Brown & Company on the Clyde was to become HMS NAIRANA, and the PORT SYDNEY at Swan Hunter on the Tyne was to become HMS VINDEX. The PORT PIRIE was repurchased by port line after WW2 and named PORT VICTOR I sailed on her in 1960, the original ships bell was still on the forecastle with HMS NAIRANA embossed OFF. No 181935. Her war history is online. R.

Although the ships I sailed on were all post war many were a later iteration of those that had in the Ropner and Reardon Smith navies. None carried photos or reports for my education and I have only found out recently from shipping magazine's fleet histories.

Just read the actual title for this topic. The above ships I have named are vessels I know of. I never actually sailed on any of them. But I have been on board the Glengarry. I was on board was the Denbighshire when she was renamed Sarpedon (Blue Funnel)2226a65ecb2c07abb0745bb45885d5fa.jpg lovely looking ships, I thought the photo I posted was the Glengarry but not so!!!
