    Default U.N. buying tanker.

The U.N. announced yesterday that it had bought a large tanker to transfer more than 1 million barrels of oil from a rusting FSO (floating storage offloading) vessel off the coast of Yemen.
In order to avoid an environmental disaster the deal was signed with Euronav to buy a VLCC for the transfer. The operation is expected to start next month.
TheFSO Safer (ironic name) is owned by the Yemeni government and no maintenance has been carried out on it since 2015 and only a skeleton crew remain on board. The cost of the operation is likely to be in the region of $129 million. The Safer is reported to be 50 years old so I imagine it will be in a state.
    Regards Michael
