Those who did their time at the 'Vindi' will never forget them no mater the association is now closed.
Experiences such as those only come once in a life time, just as well, but we learned so much and should remember that.
went in as boys and came out as seamen.
Yes sad news it was a great starting point for many of us.

Yes, well the world keeps turning, mostly good memories.
Loaded coal on the morning of the last day there, stupidly left my 'janker jacket', which I missed later on.

Hi Fred; I see you signed on the Vindi in 1949 that would put you about 90, must have been all the good food we had or is it the good life here in Australia ?
I was there Christmas/ new year 62/63 so a bit behind you but ended up in Australia as well. R 779864 Mark Sewell.
At 83 years of age everything in hindsight.......But what hindsight!!! Vindi training was the transition from boy to boy with aspirations. Going to sea was the best education. You rapidly grew up, learned about responsibility, about life skills and about yourself. I have very clear pictures in my my mind of the Vindi experience and they won't die in my mind until I pop my clogs......... thank you Vindi..

Yes, my dad (Bob Christmas) was sad to hear he wouldn't be getting the newsletter any more. He has many fond memories of his time at the Vindi & in the merchant navy travelling all over the world in the early 1950s - 90 years & counting... :)
Deborah don’t have a family member called Joe Christmas from Southern Ireland , of the same era and age do you ? JS
